Decision Support Systems for the Built Environment

We have been researching and building decision support systems for the built environment since 2004.  This work has been funded by a sucession of EPSRC projects (Mapping the Underworld, Assessing the Underworld) and by the EU in the NetTUN project.  More information can be found by following the links below.

Mapping the Underworld and VISTA projects

This project initially focussed on data integration of utility records, leading to implementation in Scotland in 2012 as the VAULT system which provides 24/7 access to integrated statutory records.  Later work investigated improved sensor interpretation, in particular for Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), leading to work on automatically producing maps of buried apparatus. See here for further information.

Assessing the Underworld project

At Leeds, this project focussed on building a decision support system to assist with holistic decision making for streetworks.  See here for further information.

NetTUN

At Leeds we focussed on two areas:

  • Decision support for tunnel maintenance, in collaboration with the French railway company, SNCF.
  • Decision support for TBM operation, providing  visualisation and interpretation of sensors mounted on a TBM
